M&A Companion PC gets a power boost with the new Intel Atom processor

Dallas, TX August 1, 2008 --M&A Technology, a leading provider of technology products and services, will offer the Companion PC with the new Atom processor this summer.  With this new processor, the Companion PC delivers greater performance while improving the battery life.   The first shipment of the new Companion PC is expected to arrive in August just in time for implementation before the start of the school year.  The original Companion PC was first introduced during the Texas Computer Education Association’s (TCEA) annual convention and was immediately adopted by many schools as the device for the 1:1 computing initiative.  The new Companion PC is expected to reach over 80,000 students by the end of this year according to industry sources.

With the influx of mini-laptops into the educational market, the Companion PC offers the best value under $500.  This mini-notebook is designed to withstand the day-to-day usage by children in the school and at home.  It is the ONLY ruggedized notebook designed specifically for education.  It comes with a built-in handle and a skin that can be customized with school colors and logo.

As more schools adopt the 1:1 computing initiative, the Companion PC will be their device of choice.  The Total Cost of Ownership for the Companion PC is lower than that for other min-notebooks because of the ruggedized features that are built-in this notebook.  M&A will be selling the Companion PC directly through their website and through distribution channels.

“Microsoft is thrilled to be working with M&A Technology on this device,” said Megan Both, Director of U.S. sales for the Original Equipment Manufacturer Division at Microsoft. “By offering Windows, along with the new Intel Atom processor on the Companion PC, we are able provide a broad range of students access to an affordable, fully functional solution to help them succeed in their education endeavors.”

The Companion PC is ruggedized, low-cost and fully functional notebook based on the Intel-powered classmate PC specifically designed for students K-12.   The newest version of the Companion PC will be based on the Intel® Atom™ Processor which was released on June 2nd, 2009.  The standard configuration will be priced at $499.00 which includes the Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 60GB hard drive and a 9” LCD screen.  It comes with a built in case and handle that can be personalized.  It runs Microsoft Windows operating system.  When loaded with educational software, this device helps primary students learn and develop with technology.  Teachers utilize this device to create a fun learning environment for students that keeps them connected with technology.  A full description of the product is available at
